Spring & Autumn At Southwood Farm, Devon

There is something so inspiring visiting gardens through the seasons. A favourite garden to visit locally here in the West Country is the exceptionally beautiful South Wood Farm in East Devon, where it opens its doors to visitors for a special day event in spring and autumn with the NGS National Gardens Scheme.

The 17-century thatched farmhouse and idyllic gardens are surrounded by beautiful Devon countryside. I grew up just down the road from the Farm, so it is a landscape I am particularly fond of. The garden was designed by the renowned garden designer Arne Maynard, who cleverly combines contemporary design with more traditional country style.

The garden has different areas & features for you to enjoy seeing and walking around with orchards, wildflowers meadows, yew tree topiary, a knot garden, seating areas, a wall of crab apples framing the front house garden, perennial beds which are filled to the brim in spring with tulips, and an enviable vegetable potager style garden area with beds filled with vegetables, fruit and cutting flowers.

All the viewpoints in the garden are carefully considered and picturesque. It really is a joy to spend time in this beautifully designed garden.

The kitchen garden is one of my favourite areas in the garden.

Hope you have enjoyed my captures from my spring and autumn visits to South Wood Farm xx
